Spoto Sisters Continue To Make News

QUEENSBURY , N.Y. - The local track and field season may be over, but the Spoto sisters continue to tear up the summer circuit.

Amanda Spoto, about to enter her senior year at St. Joseph Hill, took two gold medals with two personal-best throws at the Empire State Liberty Track and Field Tour championships at Queensbury HS.

Competing in the young women division, she started her day with a 41 feet, 2.5 inch throw for the shot put gold medal, and threw the discus 126-4 for the second gold.

A three-time Advance All Star, she is set to launch an attack to be the greatest combination shot and discus thrower in Island interscholastic history.

Her younger sisters also fared well in the youth division.

Brittany won the javelin with a 94-9 toss, and later placed second in the long jump (14-4).

Ashley Spoto was second in the shot put with a 25-1 throw.

The Empire State Liberty Track and Field Tour championships replace the now defunct Empire State Games, a long-time fixture on the summer track and field circuit.
