SITRAC announced this week the honorees for the "One City in
Track" annual fundraiser Thurs. May 6th. at Moore H.S.
Aimee Boden of the Randall's Island Sports
Foundation will be honored for her work on Icahn Stadium in
Manhattan. Downing Stadium on Randall's Island had served the
running community since before the days of World War II. Her
foundation turned Downing into Icahn, a state of the art Outdoor
Track & Field Center that now hosts a Grand Prix event.(Now
Diamond League, Sat. June 12th.)
SITRAC will also honor three local legends for their moments in
the spotlight:
Jim O'Neill- coached Staten Island's most
competitive road race team in the early 1980's.the Greenery Racing
Team. O'Neill coached Winnie NG from Hong Kong in the first
women's Olympic Marathon in 1984 (LA,California)
Peter Murray- Was the Staten Island Cross
Country Champion 50 years ago. Murray went on to Fordham
University and a teaching career with the NYC DOE.
Jessy Carlin- A graduate of St. Joseph by
the Sea and the University of Pennsylvania Carlin has competed at
the top of the nation in mid-distance events.An NCAA All-American
Carlin still competes today at a national level.
