Caitlin Tormey was on top of the world after her 23rd place Olympic Marathon
Trials performance of 2:40.29 in April of 2008. Things have not been that rosey
since. Tormey was diagnosed with a stress fracture of her right inferior pubic
ramus in July of 2008 and is still on the comeback trial.
“I always knew that injuries were a huge aspect of competitive running,
but I never truly understood how physically, mentally and emotionally
challenging injury management could be until I experienced an injury of this
magnitude.” Tormey said recently.
Tormey’s body was able to withstand the pounding of 120 mile weeks prior
to the 2008 marathon trial. Those miles combined tempo, speed and long runs. Now
Tormey’s workouts consist of several hours a day of swimming, therapy and
elliptical training.
Running is still very important to Tormey and she plans on training for
the 2012 Olympic Marathon trial, a race that might actually be held in
NYC.
Tormey currently lives in Manhattan and works for Christie’s Auction
House.
SITRAC wishes Caitlin a speedy recovery. We will keep you posted on her
progress.
